A second official estimate of GDP has
confirmed that the UK economy shrank by 0.2% in the last quarter of 2011.
The fall marked a sharp reversal in economic growth from the third quarter of 2011, when gross domestic product (GDP) expanded by 0.6%. However, the estimate for GDP growth in 2011 as a whole was revised down from 0.9% to 0.8%, versus the previous year.
The second estimate from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) follows a "flash" estimate given in January.
