UK's debt mountain smashes through £1trillion
Government debt has smashed through the £1trillion barrier for the first time as borrowing soared by £120billion in a year, figures revealed today. The amount owed now stands at an eye-watering £1,003.9billion - or 64.2 per cent of GDP - up from £883billion a year ago, and its highest since records began in 1993.But the monthly rise for December was, at least, smaller than expected.
