Demand for cigarettes may fall

A bill proposing selling cigarettes only by a prescription from a doctor has been drafted in Iceland.

The recent economic crisis has apparently made us all reach for the chocolate digestive. Sales of traditional favourite biscuits have been on the rise in the last year. The total market is up by 22 per cent over the past five years to some £2.2billion. It is not just biscuits that have seen a rise in consumption due to the economic crisis, other comfort foods like sausage rolls and meat pies have also seen a rise in demand.

As families try to conserve their money luxuries such as eating out, trips to the cinema and gym memberships have been cut out. While dunking a biscuit in a cuppa provides the sugar rush and emotional pick-me-up people feel they need.

Increase in demand for holidays in the UK

More tourists coming to the UK last year attracted by the fall in value of the pound. On the other hand, 36.4 million UK residents went on holiday overseas last year, but this was the lowest figure since 1999. In fact there was a drop in numbers of 2 million compared to 2009 and 10 million compared to 2008.
